Afer the catastrophic storm we had last October, I’ve been looking for these little wildflowers all season. I was so pleased to finally find them again. As is obvious, they grow in a fairly abandoned place, and a lot of brush came down and more was chipped into piles there.
These are wood anemone, a relative of the cultivated types of anemones that we grow in our gardens. But unlike those, these are spring ephemerals, meaning they appear for a few weeks in the early spring and then go dormant. Here’s a close-up of the lovely flower. It’s breathtaking among the forest floor leaf litter!
